About My Game Plan

The objective of My Game Plan is to build on the skills and knowledge you have gained as an elite athlete by providing you with a framework to get the most out of your time in the sport, improve your personal wellbeing and prepare for retirement.

My Game Plan has been designed to allow you to explore your values, interests away from football and how your own wellbeing is best supported. Having done so you are then better equipped to set goals for the future and put in place concrete goals and actions to ensure you achieve what you set out to.

If you haven't already undertaken an Individual Assessment with your PDM we encourage you to reach out to them to undertake this piece of work first, as it will better equip them to support you with your own My Game Plan. There may be some overlap with your Inner Game Journal but we encourage you to set your overall off-field development goals through your My Game Plan and use your Inner Game Journal as part of your daily practice as we outline in the Inner Game Journal module in the Players' Journey.

Completing My Game Plan

Your Player Development Manager is here to support you. As a qualified career counsellor they are well placed to work with you to complete your My Game Plan. As outlined in previous Players' Journey modules, we have a player centric model that sits you at the heart of all we do, as such your My Game Plan ensures you have the flexibility to meet your own needs whilst giving you the framework to get the most out your career, support your own wellbeing and ultimately prepare for retirement.

They can be inside or outside of football, alive or dead.

For example it may be courage, honesty, selflessness

Goals

Now we encourage you to set some goals.

In writing your goals we suggest you to adopt the SMART approach:

Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-bound

Ultimately your ability to achieve the goals you set will be based on your commitment to achieving them, the thought you put into devising them, and your support.

“I approach everything step by step….I had always set short-term goals. As I look back, each one of the steps or successes led to the next one.”

Michael Jordan

Your goals are split into three sections, career, wellbeing and retirement to align with the Players Journey Model.
